What is the boy now, who has lost his ball

What, what is he to do ? I saw it go

Merrily bouncing, down the street, and then

Merrily over-there it is in the water.

अब उस लड़के को क्या हो गया है जिसकी गेंद खो गई है ? अब वह क्या करने वाला है ? कवि कहता है कि उसने गेंद को प्रसन्नतापूर्वक उछलते हुए और गली में जाते हुए देखा | बाद में गेंद खुशी से उछलती हुई पानी में चली गई |

No use to say 'O there are other balls

An ultimate shaking grief fixes the boy

As he stands rigid, trembling, staring down

All his young days into the harbour where his ball went.

यह कहने से कोई फायदा नहीं है कि अरे दूसरी गेंद है (अर्थात वह और नई गेंद खरीद सकता है, इसके कहने से कोई लाभ नहीं) एक परेशान कर देने वाला गहरा चरम दुःख उस लड़के को उस समय जड़वत कर देता है, जब वह कठोरता से काँपते हुए अपने बचपन के दिनों को याद करता हुआ उस बंदरगाह को घूरते हुए खड़ा होता है जहाँ पर उसकी गेंद चली गई |

I would not intrude on him

A dime, another ball, is worthless. Now

He senses first responsibility 

In a world of possessions. People will take

Balls, balls will be lost always, little boy.

कवि कहता है कि वह (कवि) लड़के के इस जीवन में अवांछित प्रवेश नहीं करेगा | उसे (गेंद खरीदने के लिए) एक सेंट का सिक्का देना या दूसरी गेंद देने का प्रस्ताव रखना व्यर्थ है | अब वह भौतिक संसार में प्रथम उत्तरदायित्व का अनुभव करता है | लोग गेंदें खरीदते रहेंगे और छोटे लड़के तो हमेशा खोते रहेंगे |

And no one buys a ball back. Money is external.

He is learning, well behind his desperate eyes

The epistemology of loss, how to stand up

Knowing what every man must one day know

And most know many days, how to stand up.

और कोई भी खोई हुई गेंद को नहीं खरीद सकता | धन एक बाह्य (बाहरी) चीज है | खैर, वह अपनी निराश आँखो से सीख रहा है, वह खोने के ज्ञानशास्त्र को सीख रहा है | इसका कैसे सामना किया जाये | वह सीख रहा है कि उस स्थिति का सामना किस प्रकार किया जाये जो प्रत्येक व्यक्ति के सामने एक न एक दिन आनी ही है, और अधिकांश लोग उस स्थिति का सामना करना सीखने में बहुत दिन लगा देते हैं |

This Poem is about losing something which we love and then learning to grow up. It is about a little boy, who in his young life, for the first time, is learning what it is like to experience grief after the loss of a man-beloved possession which is here his ball.

The Ball Poem "By John Berryman" is a poem about a boy who loses his ball and learns to deal with the loss. The poem explores themes of loss growth, and the fleeting nature of childhood. The Ball, in this poem, symbolises the poet's childhood.

Once we become adults we lose our childhood. Initially, the poet was clinging to his childhood about later he accepted the changes in his life. Although he is still suffering. Yet he is learning to move from his fleeting childhood.

Thus the reader may interpret this poem literally and metaphorically both. It literally, then it is a soulful picture of little boys growing up and learning to deal with the loss of the first in his possession.

द बॉल पोएम (The Ball Poem) कविता का संदेश यह है कि हमें अपने जीवन में ऐसी चीजें मिलती है जो हमारे जीवन का हिस्सा बन जाती है | हमें लगता है कि वे हमेशा हमारे साथ रहेंगी | इस प्रकार हम उनसे लगाव बना लेते हैं | हालांकि जीवन में एक ऐसा भी दिन आता है जब चीज हमारे साथ नहीं रहती |

इस कविता में कवि एक लड़के के बारे में बात कर रहा है जिसने अपनी गेंद खो दी है | वह उसके और उसकी प्रतिक्रिया के बारे में जानना चाहता है क्योंकि उसने अपनी गेंद खो दी है | इसके अलावा वह खुद से पूछता है कि यह लड़का अपनी गेंद हारने के बाद क्या करेगा | कवि ने गेंद को लड़के से दूर जाते देखा है | 

उनका कहना है कि गेंद खुशी-खुशी गली में उछलकर नीचे गिर रही थी | इसका मतलब है कि जब गेंद लड़के के हाथ से छुटी तो वह गली में चली गई और बाद में वह पास की नदी में गिर गई | इस तरह इस कविता में कवि ने कल्पना का उपयोग यह बताते हुए किया है कि गेंद किस तरह से लड़के की बचकानी मासूमियत की भावना को व्यक्त करती है |

हम कल्पना कर सकते हैं कि गेंद की तरह इस छोटे लड़के की आत्मा बंदरगाह के काले पानी में कैसे डूब रही है और जैसे-जैसे यह आगे बढ़ता है, छोटा लड़का बड़ा होना सीख जायेगा, और यह हिस्सा उस गेंद से जुड़ा हुआ है और साथ ही बड़ा होता है, जब तक कि यह छोटा लड़का नहीं होता है | इस प्रकार पाठक इस कविता की शाब्दिक और रूपक दोनों व्याख्या कर सकता है |

इस तरह अगर शाब्दिक रूप से, तो यह छोटे लड़कों की बढ़ती हुई तस्वीर है जो अपने कब्जे में पहले के नुकसान से निपटने के लिए बड़े हो रहे हैं और सीख रहे हैं | यदि रूपक के रूप में, तो यह मानव जाति की कहानी है कि वे अपने प्रिय लोगों या लोगों के नुकसान से निपटना सीखें |
