From colors to fonts to the general style of your presentation, there are tons of factors that play into how clients and audience members perceive you for all time.

Because of this profession it's important to have your branding bases covered. As a general rule, building a personal brand is about using visual aids to convey your message, tone and style. Essentially, the tenants of your brand, such as your colours and fonts, go hand-in-hand with your promise statements and message.

(3) Start speaking locally for free.

One you have your brand built out and social media profiles ! pages made, the next step is to start speaking ! although you probably won't be able to bind a lot of paid speaking gigs right off the bat, an easy way to gain experience is by speaking locally for free. Think about community centers, religious etc.

There are some organizations, and schools in your area for many of these organizations and their event organizers, the cost of hiring a speaker is a major concern. In low income areas especially, it can be difficult for educators or community advocates to afford speakers fees, even if their audience and others.

If your audience can benefit from a motivational speech or an actionable message. Luckily for them, this is where you come in. Now more than ever, the benefits of face-time with members of your community can be a huge learning opportunity. Not only are able to learn what areas of your stage presence.

You are also able to make connections within your community. Who knows ? Maybe you have assumed that your community needs leadership first. Maybe there's an area of your community that's being overlooked on a state or federal level, costing them resources. No matter what your specific reason and others.

Maybe, it certainly won't hurt to concert with people arround you. Plus, the more speaking experience you have, the more easily you'll be able to sell your services for a fee.

(4) Don't memorize your lines.

For too many speakers believe that the best way to give a great speech is to memorize the content word-for-word. However, this is one of the worst things that you can do as a speaker. Memorization makes you sound over rehearsed and worse, if you mind blanks out at any point during the speech.

If your presentation a common occurrence over for the most skilled speakers you will lose your place and potentially creat an awkward silence. If that happens, it can lead to sheer panic and railroad your entire speech. The better strategy is to memorize your key concepts instead of the specific line.

You can do this by creating bullet points of your key messages, stories, data and takeaways that you want to get across in each part of your presentation. This allows you the attitude to speak naturally about them, change annecdotes to serve the audience and retain flexibility to move on if you forget something.

(5) Practice in a noisy room.

This tip I learned from a seasoned Hollywood actor who liked to practice his lines for upcoming television and movie performances in a neighbourhood pool hall. While most people are inclined to go somewhere to practice where they won't be distracted, this doesn't prepare you for a real presentation at moment forever.

If your real presentation, in live presenting, anything can happen, from cell phones ringing to people shouting feedback from the audience. If you practice somewhere noisy you can work through the distractions and learn to tune them out while you focus on the concepts and message tha you want to get.

Your focus should be on the concepts and messages that you want to get across. This way, nothing will phase you during an unexpected presentation moment. Your practice should be always continue to in noisy room so that your fluency and communication power should be strong and powerfull your forever.

(6) Embrace audio and visuals.

One of the most engaging speeches that I've seen a long time was from Steve Hayden, advertising guru-extraordinaire and the man behind the iconic "Apple 1984" Mcintosh commercial. His speech was on branding, but the majority of it was watching fun commercials etc. screen and him giving a bit of others.

A bit of commentary on the impact of each one and what you could learn and apply from it. Another keynote that I loved had a live D.J. who changed up music every time the speaker had a new story or message to underscore his points. While most speakers know to not read directly from slides before.

You do now the more you can make your speech into multy-sensory content, the better not only does adding visual or even extra audio keep the audience engaged, but it's less content that you as a presenter have to remember and less performing to do.

(7) Focus on serving the audience.

Even the most seasoned speakers can get nervous prior to presenting. The most effective way to take the pressure off the you are to change your mindset and think about serving your audience, rather than focusing on your performance. Remember that you are there to provide your listeners for all.

If your audience with valuable information that helps them. If your audience leaves with even one or two new pieces of information or a new prospective, you have made it worth their while. By focusing on being helpful or in service of the audience, You will be able to relax and fill always powerfull.

Also chatting with the people that you are going to be speaking to before you give your speech can help you serve your audience even better. Not only does it warm them up to you, it lets you gagu their sense of humor, which is particularly critical if you are a speaker that tends to let a curse word fly.

Moreover, you can clean insights to incorporate into your presentation. It's incredibly effective to use audience members as examples or transitions in a speech because it creates intimacy with the audience and more engagement. If you are talking to small-business owners about marketing and Susan for others.

For example, told you a great story about how she used an unusual marketing tactic, incorporate Susan and her story into your presentation. Speaking of cleaver marketing, earlier I was talking to Susan, who is sitting in the third row, and she told me how she used a stunt with 500 kittens to get new clients.

(8) Make it interactive.

One of my favourite speeches that I give is on elevator pitching. One I have laid out the foundation of a good pitch, I show live clips of real pitches and let the audience critigue what was good and bad about them. This keeps the audience involved as part of the presentation, which is naturally more fun engaging.

This is the naturally and also gives them devices to remember the material. As you plan your speech, think about where you can involve the audience and what devices you can use to involve them in the presentation so that you are talking with them, not just to them.

(9) Maintain social media presence.

Moving on, the second step of how to become a public speaker is an obvious one be social ! in this day and age even if you don't yet have the founds or the speaking experience to warrant a website, social media is a good placeholder. That isn't to say you don't need a website you definitely do.

However, until you can get one up and running. Creating social media profiles is an effective and affordable way to build your credibility. It's also a great way to make connections with other speakers, industry leaders, or potential clients. That way, when you do launch your website, you'll already have people interested.

To get started, of the social platforms out there, the four most popular apps are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Linkedin. If you haven't used some of these platforms before or are new to social media entirely each app in intended for a slightly different use. Below is a brief description, so you know which apps to use, based on your target audience.

(10) Work your way up, in speaking fees and reputation.

Finally, remember that all of these basic steps are just a starting point ! when it comes to balancing how to become a good public speaker with the work you're currently doing, it can be difficult to keep up with the workload. It's also easy to get discouraged or distracted, especially with the lack of information out there.
