कवि  संसार के अन्त के विषय में दो प्रचलित विचार प्रस्तुत करता है | कुछ लोग कहते हैं कि संसार का अन्त अग्नि से होगा और कुछ अन्य कहते हैं कि बर्फ संसार का अन्त करेगा | कवि इच्छा को अग्नि के समान मानता हैं और कहता है कि असीमित इच्छा (तृष्णा) संसार के अन्त का कारण बनेगी |

I think I know enough of hate

कवि ने कहा था कि तृष्णा, जो अग्नि की प्रतीक है, संसार का अन्त करेगी | अब वह कहता है कि घृणा, जो कि बर्फ की प्रतीक है, वह भी संसार के लिए उतनी ही हानिकारक है | तृष्णा की ही भाँति घृणा भी संसार को नष्ट कर सकती है |

"Fire And Ice" a poem of only nine short lines, is written about destruction about the inevitable demise that hatred and obsession will bring. In the first line of the poem, Frost indicates the end or demise and the two ways in which it can happen "Fire And Ice".

In this way now I can say that in this poem the fire symbolises burning desires ice-cold hatred. It describes how we humans will be the end of our own race. In this poem the poet is very much sure of the destination of humanity on someday and other things.

He is talking about the two different beliefs regarding the end of this world. These are on the basis of the saying of the people. In this poem the poet presents two opposite views about the end of humanity and the world. He discusses these two possibilities which will be the reason for the end of the world.

इस कवित में कवि मानवता और दुनिया के अन्त के बारे में दो विपरीत विचार प्रस्तुत करता है | वह इन दो संभावनाओं पर चर्चा करता है जो दुनिया के अन्त का कारण बनेगी | ऐसी ही एक संभावना है दुनिया का आग की लपटों में खत्म होना | ऐसा इसलिए है क्योंकि जब वह लोगों की इच्छाओं की जलती हुई लपटों पर विचार करता है और गहराई से सोचता है |

आगे इस कविता में कवि रोमांटिक इच्छा का अनुभव करता है कि उसने प्यार और वासना जैसी भावनाओं के लिए जुनून सिखाया है | इनमें संभवतः पृथ्वी को एक बड़े आग के गोले में बदलने की शक्ति होगी लेकिन उसने दूसरे चरम पक्ष का भी अनुभव किया है | यह नफरत जैसी ठंडी भावनाओं के बारे में है जिसमें बहुत विनाशकारी शक्ति है जो प्रत्यक्ष दिख रही है |

यह एक सामान्य तथ्य है कि प्यार को सभी प्रचार मिलते हैं जबकि नफरत मौन हत्यारा है जो हो सकता है कि आग का गोला खत्म होने जैसा अमर न हो लेकिन यह टोटका करेगा | कुल मिलाकर कविता का विषय सदियों पुराना सवाल है | सवाल यह है कि दुनिया का अन्त आग से होगा या बर्फ में | कवि तय करता है कि दोनों में से कोई भी विकल्प अपने उद्देश्य को पर्याप्त रूप से पूरा करेगा |अतः कवि इस आम धारणा को साझा करता है कि जो कुछ भी मौजूद है उसका अन्त भी होगा |
