👉 There are mainly five types of nouns.

1. Proper noun - व्यक्तिवाचक संज्ञा.

2. Common noun - जातिवाचक संज्ञा.

3. Material noun - पदार्थवाचक संज्ञा.

4. Collective noun - समूहवाचक संज्ञा.

5. Abstract noun - भाववाचक संज्ञा.

1. Proper noun - व्यक्तिवाचक संज्ञा.

A proper noun is the name of a particular person, place or thing.

जिस संज्ञा से किसी विशेष व्यक्ति, स्थान या वस्तु आदि का पता लगे अर्थात् उनका कोई नाम दिया गया हो तब उस नाम को व्यक्तिवाचक संज्ञा कहा जाता है |

✓ Example.

(i) Mona lives in Kanpur.

(ii) Kolkata is a big city.

2. Common noun - जातिवाचक संज्ञा.

A common noun is the common name given to the person, places or thing of the same kind.

जब कोई शब्द एक ही जाति के किसी व्यक्ति, एक ही प्रकार की वस्तुओं में से किसी वस्तु या स्थान विशेष के विषय में बताये तब वह जातिवाचक संज्ञा कहलाता है |

✓ Example.

(i) My car is red.

(ii) She reads a book.

3. Material noun - पदार्थवाचक संज्ञा.

Material noun is the name of a material which is used to make other materials or thing.

ऐसे पदार्थ या वस्तुएँ जिनसे अन्य कोई वस्तु बनाई जाती हो उसे पदार्थवाचक संज्ञा कहते हैं |

✓ Example.

(i) My ring is made of pure gold.

(ii) My chair is made of iron.

4. Collective noun - समूहवाचक संज्ञा.

A collective noun is the name given to a collective of person, place or thing.

वे शब्द जो एक ही प्रकार के व्यक्तियों या वस्तुओं का ज्ञान कराये वे समूहवाचक संज्ञा कहलाते हैं |

✓ Example.

(i) A party of friends.

(ii) A line of kings.

5. Abstract noun - भाववाचक संज्ञा.

Abstract noun is the name of a quality, action, state or feeling.

जिन शब्दों से किसी गुण, अवस्था, दशा, कार्य या विचार का पता लगे और उसे देखा न जा सके केवल अनुभव किया जा सके उसे भाववाचक संज्ञा कहते हैं |

(i) I saw her happiness.

(ii) Honesty is the best policy.
