आंटी (चाची ) जेनिफर के बाघ आवरण (पर्दे) पर इधर से उधर उछल-कूद करते हैं, चमकदार पुखराज जैसे हरे-भरे संसार के वे निवासी (रहने वाले) हैं | वे पेड़ के नीचे खड़े आदमी से डरते नहीं हैं, वे आकर्षक तरीके से शिष्टता के साथ गतिमान रहते हैं |

Aunt jennifer's fingers fluttering

Through her wool

Find even the ivory needle hard to pull

The massive weight of uncle's wedding

Sits heavily upon aunt Jennifer's hand.

चाची जेनिफर की उंगलियाँ उनकी ऊन में स्पंदन कर रही (फड़फड़ा रही) है यहाँ तक कि हाथी दांत से बनी सिलाई को खींचना (उठाना) भी कठिन प्रतीत दिखाता है | चाची (अंकल) के वैवाहिक बंधन का भारी वजन चाची जेनिफर के हाथ पर (जीवन पर) भारी पड़ता (प्रतीत होता) है |

When aunt is dead, her terrified hands will lie

Still ringed with ordeals she was mastered by

The tigers in the panel that she made

Will go on prancing, proud and unafraid.

अब जब चाची मर चुकी हैं, उनके भयाक्रांत हाथ पर (गिर) जाएंगे और अब भी आजमाइश (कठिन परीक्षा) के साथ (विवाह की) अंगूठी पहने हुए हैं जिससे उन्हें गुलाम बनाया गया था | पर्दे में जो बाघ उन्होंने बनाए थे उछलते-कूदते, गर्व के साथ और बिना डरे हुए चलते चले जाएंगे |

In this poem, the poet describes lady whom she addresses as aunt Jennifer. The poet also says that she is doing embroidery on a piece of cloth that could be a wall hanging or table cloth. Moreover, she has made it with beautiful tigers's that are running fiercely in the green forest.

Further, she describes their beauty in comparison to a topaz. As in the green background of the forest, they appear bright yellow. Company of men does not affect them as they are fearless. At this point, we can sense the contrast of behaviour between the aunt and tigers. Although tiger made by her is fierce she is afraid of her husband.

According to the poet, tigers are the proud and fearless citizens of the forests. These creatures are very elegant and shiny. In this para, the poet defines aunt Jennifer's fear of her husband. While doing embroidery she says that her tigers shake with the fear of her husband. As her husband does not approve her hobby of embroidery.

Hence, she quivers while she is embroidering the peace of cloth. Also it becomes difficult for her to pull the needle up and down. After that, she defines her wedding ring which her husband give her on their wedding day. In addition, she sees it as a kind of burden to wear this ring.

In this poem a woman express her deep feeling through her art. She (Aunt Jennifer) she prey of male dominant society. Also, there is no one with whom she can share her physical pain. So she makes a picture to describe her deep feelings. Moreover, the narrator defines the tigers which her aunt made on the panel.

वह बूढ़ी है लेकिन फिर भी अपने पति से डरती हैं | वह अपनी इच्छा के अनुसार कुछ भी करने की स्वतंत्रता का आनंद नहीं लेती है | वह कढ़ाई करने से भी डरती है और अपने पति के प्रकोप से डरती है | जिस दिन से उसकी शादी हुई, वह अपने पति की मांगों को पूरा कर रही है | उसके हाथ पर शादी की अंगूठी एक निरंतर अनुस्मारक है जो वह अपने पति की गुलाम है और उसे मांगलिक विवाह के बोझ ने उसे थका दिया है |

उसकी मृत्यु तक पीड़ा समाप्त नहीं होगी | उसकी मृत्यु के बाद भी अंगूठी उस के हाथ पर रहेगी और वह कभी भी मुक्त नहीं होगी | दूसरी ओर वह जिस बाघ को पाल रही है वह हमेशा के लिए स्वतंत्र रूप से घूमता रहेगा | स्वतंत्रता और निर्भयता की उसकी इच्छा उसके बाघों में जीवित रहेगी | कविता अंततः आंटी जेनिफर की विवश वास्तविकता और उनकी कलात्मक रचना के बीच द्वंद्वबाद पर जोर देती है |

Aunt Jennifer's tigers 

Aunt Jennifar's tigers is a imaginary as well as pathetic poem composed by poet 'Adrienne Rich'. She presents the fortune and final conclusion of a lady characterized as 'Aunt Jennifer who passed her whole life under the boundation and responsibilities after her marriage.

She silently born and faced all pressure and exploitations for whole life. She weaves some tigers images which represent her internal desires and feelings but actually she lived a weak and timid life. Even after becoming old, she didn't get free from household duties. Her husband, the uncle made her wear.

In this way that her husband made her wear a ring which was in her hand after her death also which shows that she couldn't be free till then. Weakness and fear always remained stay in her heart. The poem makes this point by representing the wild, interesting, powerful tigers embroidered by Aunt Jennifer and contrasting them with Aunt Jennifer herself.
