पिछले शुक्रवार की सुबह को अपने माँ-बाप के घर से कोचीन को वाहन चलाकर जाते हुए, मैंने अपनी माँ को देखा, मेरे साथ बैठी, ऊंघते हुए, खुले हुए मुँह के साथ, उनका चेहरा लाश (मृत शरीर) के समान पीला दिखाई दिया |

That she was as old as she

Looked but soon

My mother at sixty-six summary highlights the fear at separation in the mind of the narrator as she is confronted with the fact that hear mother is approaching old age. The poem concludes on a big note as the daughter is hopeful that she will be reunited with her mother soon.

The poem My mother at sixty six beings with a daughter observing her mother closely as the begin their journey towards the Cochin airport. The author points a very vivid image of how the mother has aged and as she describes the same, she also mentions the fear lurking in the mind of the daughter.

The fear of losing her mother, the author describes the mother's face as whites, sleeping with an open mouth which she says is almost comparable to a corpse. The sudden realization pangs at the heart of the daughter and the chooses to shift her attention by looking outside the window of the car.

The sceneray outside provides an upliftment to the daughter's mood. The huge trees with the freshly sprinted green leaves, children playing cheerfully represented life, energy and vigor. Here, we see that the narrator is drifted back to her own childhood days where she remembers her mother as beautiful and young.

This is in sharp contrast to the present scenario and this makes the daughter's heart heavy. As we read through the poem, we know that the daughter has reached the airport, where she is saddened by the fact that she has to depart from her mother and the author sees her mother in the backdrop.

In this way we can say that the view of this poet of the dusky evening as begins to bid farewell. Here, the narrator compress the mother's smile to the winter's late-night moon. The poet has beautifully illustrated the sense by comparing the image of the aging mother with the light of the moon.

Thus, metaphor is a representation of the old age of the mother. We then see that the pain of separation makes the daughter more vulnerable as she is terrified of losing her mother unexpectedly. The daughter's heart is filled with emotions of grief and she is overwhelmed at the thought of separating from her dear mother.

However, we she that the daughter puts on a brave face and quietly smiles. She keeps her hopes up of seeing her mother and bids farewell to her mother with the words "See you soon amma". The narrator thus prevents the environment from getting too emotional and painful. Also, she does not want to leave her mother teary-eyed.

The author says that the daughter wishes that her mother also gives her life fully and happy. To memorize, my mother of sixty six is a beautiful poem describing  the beautiful bond between a daughter and her parents.

उनका मुंह खुला हुआ था और उनका शरीर किसी मृत शरीर जैसा था | कवि को एहसास हुआ कि उसकी माँं अब बहुत बूढ़ी हो गई थीं | उसने अपनी माँं के प्रति दर्द और सहानुभूति महसूस की | उसकी माँं को प्यार, स्नेह और देख-भाल की जरूरत थी | उदासी से बाहर आने के लिए, कवि ने अपनी नजर हटाई और कार की खिड़की से बाहर देखा | वहाँ बाहर उसने युवा पेडों को देखा | छोेटे-छोटे बच्चे अपने घरों से बाहर खेल के मैदान में भाग रहे थे और बहुत खुश लग रहे थे |

ये बातें कवि के माँं के बुढ़ापे के विपरित थी | जब वे हवाई अड्डे पर पहुँचे और कवि हवाई जहाज से रवाना होने वाला था, उसने एक बार अपनी माँं की ओर देखा | उसकी माँं सर्दियों के मौसम में चाँद की तरह कमजोर और पीला दिखाई देती थीं लगता था कि वो अपनी सारी ताक़त खो चुकी हैं | कवि ने अपनी माँं को खोने के दर्द और डर को महसूस किया | उन्हें अपने बचपन की याद दिलाई गई जब वो छोटी सी बच्ची थीं |

कवि बचपन से ही एक बच्चे के रूप में एक पल के लिए भी अपनी माँं से अलग नहीं रहीं| अब नुकसान स्थायी होगा कयोंकि उनकी माँं मरने वाली थीं और वो उन्हें हमेशा के लिए को देंगी | कवि ने अपनी भावनाओं को व्यक्त नहीं किया | उसने मुस्कराते हुए कहा, "जल्द ही मिलते हैं अम्मा", क्योंकि वह चाहती थीं कि उसकी माँं जीवित रहें और वो फिर उससे मिल सकें|
