👉 Question (1) Who was Evans ? What did he want to learn in the cell ? 

इवान्स कौन था ? वह सेल (कारागृह) में क्या सीखना चाहता था ? 

✍️ Answer. Evans was a jolly good fellow. Being a jail bird, he had escaped three times from the jail. He had been star of the Christmas concert. He had a keen desire to acquire some academic qualification and started taking night classes in the prison.

✍️ Answer. Evans was a congenital Kleptomaniac. He was in prison and was famous for being 'Evans the break'. He wanted to sit for the O-level German examination as part of his plan to escape from the prison.

✍️ Answer. Jackson was senior prison officer. He and Evans were warm enemies. Jackson addressed Evans as 'little Einstein' mockingly and enquired about him. Jackson was a kind hearted man.

✍️ Answer. Mclerry was a priest / person at Mary mags. He was given a responsibility to invigilate for Evans examination of German O-level.

✍️ Answer. The suitcase that Mclerry carried had a yellow invigilation paper, a sealed envelope containing the paper, a copy of the Bible, the newspaper. The Church times, a paper knife and a small inflated rubber ring.

✍️ Answer. The correction instructed by telephone were on page three, line fifteen, the forth word should be read goldene and the whole phrase will therefore read zum goldenen lowen, not zum goldene lowen.

✍️ Answer. Evans was a young prisoner at the Oxford prison. The prison officers called him 'Evans the break' as he had escaped from prison three times. He was kleptomaniac but there was no record of violence indulged in by him.

He was actually a pleasant person, but very clever and cunning. The secretary of the examinations board received a telephonic request from the governor of the Oxford prison to creat an examination centre in jail. 

👉 Question (2) How did the governor arrange exam for Evans ? What precautions and preparations were done to make the exam successful ? Was it successfully organized ?

✍️ Answer. The prison authorities made requisite arrangement in preparing Evans for the examination. The governor recommended his case to the examination board and he was allowed to appear for the examination in his cell only under the invigilation.

All precautions were taken for the smooth conduct of the examination. The governor decided to keep a close eye over the whole affair. The examination was conducted in the cell of the prisoner. However all his arrangements proved futile and Evans managed to escape from prison.

The real Mclerry had been kept tied in his room. The suitcase the Mclerry carried had a yellow invigilation paper, a sealed envelop containing the question paper, a copy of the Bible, the newspaper 'The Church times', a paper knife and a small inflated rubber ring etc.

👉 Question (4) Who were Stephens and Jackson ? What duty was assigned to them and how did they fulfil it ?

✍️ Answer. Jackson was the senior prison officer on D-wing. Stephens was also an officer at the Oxford prison. He was recently recruited to the profession. However, they both proved good for nothing and used to jump.

The precaution for for exams were to be followed. There should not be anything which may allow the Evans to escape. On the evening before the exam, Evans cell was thoroughly searched that he should have something that could help him.

👉 Question (5) What happened after the completion of the exam ? Was everything quiet ok or something mishappened ? Explain.

✍️ Answer. After the exam. Evans had escaped from the jail. This time when he escaped under the guise of Mclerry, the governor again caught him at golden lion hotel. The governor made him sit in the prison van and said he would see him.

This indicated that he was going under a plan and was sure of his freedom despite all the precaution taken by the jail officer, he succeeded in escaping. In fact, the governor of the Oxford prison was gullied and he could not lay of a foolproof.
