✍️ Answer. The emperor watched the painting for a long time. He admired the wonderful scene painted by Wu Daozi. He discovered forests, high mountains, waterfalls, clouds floating in the vast sky, men on hilly paths and birds in flight.

✍️ Answer. The middle void is the blank space where the two complementary elements, Yang and Yin, meet. This is usually overlooked, but a viewer must actively participate in the painting.
Without this middle void, the viewer can't take an active part in the painting and it will be just like a European painting.

✍️ Answer. Mountain water, these two images represent two complementary poles reflecting the Daoist view of the universe. The mountain is Yang-reaching vertically towards heaven and is stable, warm and dry in the sun, while the water is Yin.
It is horizontal and is resting on the earth. It is fluid, moist and cool. The interaction of Yin feminine aspects of universal energy and Yang, masculine aspects, is fundamental notice of Daoism.

✍️ Answer. A western figurative paintings is moment to reproduce an actual view of the scene whereas a classical Chinese landscape is based on an imaginative, inner or spiritual approach. The Chinese art aims at achieving the essance of inner life and spirit while the European from of art is trying to achieve a perfect illusionistic likeness and the charm.
The Chinese view of art also requires an active participation of the viewer. This participation is both physical and mental. The stories about the paintings of Wu Daozi and an old story from Flanders amply illustrate the difference.

✍️ Answer. Shanshui literally means 'mountain' and water which used together represents 'landscape'. These represent two complementary poles, reflecting the Daoist view of the universe. The mountain is Yang which riches vertically towards heaven and charm.
It is stable, warm and dry in the sun. The 'water' is Yin, which is horizontal and rests on the earth. This can be compared with the yogic practice of pranayama. Nothing can happen without this element. Man is the conduit of communication between heaven and earth. He's actual "the eye of the landscape".

✍️ It is about the eighth century when he was hired by the Tang emperor Xuanzong to adorn a wall of the palace. Wu painted beautiful scenery with mountains, waterfalls, forests as well as clouds and blue skies with in a happy environment.
This chapter divides into two parts, each telling us about art and its history through various stories. In the part taken from 'Landscape of the soul', ethics and spirituality in Chinese painting, we learn about the art of painting through two stories.
The first one is about a very popular Chinese painter, Wu Daozi. It is about the eighth century when he was hired by the Tang emperor Xuanzong to adorn a wall of the palace. The second story is about a painter who spiritual magic.
His path in his art was so strong and potent that he was terrified of bringing it to life and falling prey to a fire throwing dragon.
