👉Question (1) Where was the pool and what opportunity did it offer ?

पूल (ताल ) कहाँ था और क्या अवसर उसने प्रदान किया  ?

✍️ Answer.The pool was at the Y. M. C. A. in Yakima ( river) and it was offering the opportunity to learn swimming. Douglas to join but his mother continually warned him about the treacherousness of the river.

👉Question (2) What terror did Douglas have in his heart ? How ?

डगलस के ह्रदय में क्या भय था  ? कैसे ?

✍️ Answer. In his heart, Douglas had a terror for water. When he was about there or four years old, at California beach, he was with his father and the waves knocked him down and swept over him. Being a little child, he became fearful from the overpowering force of water, and terrorized.

👉 Question (3) What did the big bruiser of a boy do at the pool ? Why ?

एक लड़के के बड़े भाई ने ताल पर क्या किया ? क्यों ?

✍️Answer. A bruiser of a boy picked Douglas up and tossed him into the deep end. He was probably eighteen years old boy with a beautiful physical specimen who threw the narrator into the pool just for fun.

ताल कितना गहरा था ? वहाँ पानी के अन्दर क्या था ?

✍️ Answer.The pool was nine feet deep. There was nothing inside the water except the yellow tinge. Everywhere there was water and only water.

👉 Question (5) What happened to the legs of Douglas inside the pool ? How did he try to overcome that situation ?

ताल के अन्दर डगलस की टांगों को क्या हुआ ? उसने उस स्थिति से निकलने के लिए कैसे प्रयास किया ?

✍️Answer. Inside the pool, the legs of the narrator didn't move. His legs were paralysed and hung like dead weight. For recovering from this situation, he looked for ropes, ladders, water wings but nothing he caught, only water.

👉Question (6) What terror seized Douglas ? What was its effect on him ?

किस भय ने डगलस को जकड़ लिया था ? उसका उस पर क्या प्रभाव था ?

✍️ Answer. The terror of water seized Douglas. Once at California beach and other at the pool, both the incidents terrorized Douglas with the extreme level. He was affected deeply from it, as he scared from water for a long time but later due to his will-power,he won his fear of water.

👉Question (7) What did Douglas do inside the water to save his life ?

डगलस ने पानी के अन्दर अपना जीवन बचाने के लिए क्या किया ?

✍️Answer. Inside the water, Douglas made the strategy to hit the water, make a big jump, come to the surface, lie flat on it, and paddle to the edge of the pool but everytime, his strategy failed. He did this all continuously to save his life.

👉Question (8) How did all efforts cease ? What happened then ?

सभी प्रयास कैसे रुक गए  ? फिर क्या हुआ ?

✍️Answer. All efforts ceased when Douglas tried all his ways to save his life. His all strategies failed everytime. And then his legs felt limp, and a blackness swept over his brain. That wiped out fear and terror and then there was no panic.

👉Question (9) What was Douglas's condition after getting escaped from the pool ?

ताल में से बचने के बाद डगलस की क्या हालत थी  ?

✍️ Answer. After getting escaped from the pool, after several hours, Douglas walked home, he was weak and trembling, he shook and cried when he laid on his bed, he couldn't eat that night and for days a haunting fear remained in his heart. And after that day, he never went back to the pool.

👉Question (10) What did Douglas come to know after few years later ? What did he want then ?

✍️Answer. A few years later Douglas came to know about the waters of the cascades and he wanted to get into them. But whenever he did-wading the tieton or bumping river or bathing in warm lake of the goat rocks, the old terror returned and took possession of him completely it.

👉Question (11) What did the instructor do to train Douglas ?

प्रशिक्षक ने डगलस को तैयार करने ( सिखाने ) के लिए क्या किया ?

✍️ Answer. The instructor put a belt around him, attached a rope to the belt went through a pulley, held on to the end of the rope, went back and forth across the pool, hour after hour, day after day, week after week. And after seven months, the instructor declared him as a swimmer.

👉Question (12) Was Douglas satisfy after the training ? If no, why ?

क्या डगलस ट्रैनिंग ( प्रशिक्षण ) के बाद संतुष्ट था ? यदि नहीं, तो क्यों ?

✍️ Answer. No, Douglas was not satisfied after the training. Some residual doubts were left. He was not sure that all the terror had left. Whenever, he put his face under the water, the old terror used to return.

👉Question (13) Where did Douglas go to clear his residual doubts ? What did he do for it ?

अपने बचे हुए संदेहों को दूर करने के लिए डगलस कहाँ गया ? उसके लिए उसने क्या किया ?

✍️Answer. For clearing his residual doubts, Douglas went to lake wentsworth in new Hampshire, dived off a dock at triggs Island and swam two miles across the lake to stamp act Island. Then he hurried west, went up to the tieton to conrad meadows, up the conrad creek trail to meade glacier, and camped in the high meadow by the side of warm lake. Thus, after great efforts, Douglas conquered his fear of water.

👉Question (14) How was the experience, a deep meaning for Douglas ?

डगलस के लिए, अनुभव का गहरा अर्थ क्या था ?

✍️Answer. There was a deep meaning of the experience for Douglas as only those who have known stark terror and conquered it can appreciate. In death there is peace.There is terror only in the fear of death.Douglas said that he had experienced both the sensation of dying and the terror that fear of it can produce.

👉 Question ( 1) What was the fear of Douglas ? How did it come in the life of Douglas ?

डगलस का क्या डर था ? वह डगलस के जीवन में कैसे आया ?

✍️ Answer. The fear of Douglas was related to water. In the life of Douglas, there happened an incident once when he was a child of three of four years old. At California beach, he was hanging to his father when the waves knocked him down and swept over him. He buried into the water but nothing serious happened as water returned to the sea immediately.

 But Douglas was extremely scare from the overpowering force of the water. Secondly, at the pool Douglas was waiting for others and a big bruiser of a boy came there and threw Douglas into the pool just for fun. At the time, Douglas didn't know swimming and nearby drowned. Hardly somebody saved his life and he could escaped.

👉 Question ( 2) What incident did Douglas face at the pool ? What was its effect on his life ?

पूल ( ताल ) पर डगलस ने किस घटना का सामना किया ? उस घटना का उसके जीवन पर क्या प्रभाव पड़ा  ?

✍️Answer. Douglas wanted to learn swimming at Y. M. C. A. pool and for this purpose, he went to the pool and waited for others. After some minutes, a big bruiser of a boy came there, probably eighteen years old, and threw Douglas into the pool just for fun. But Douglas was unaware of swimming till that time. 

He went to the bottom of the pool and during the way, made a strategy to hit and jump and swim to the edge. But everytime, his efforts failed. No one was there to save his life, he screamed but no difference seemed. Finally, he surrendered, and became drowsy, and unconscious. Then hardly, someone saved his life from drowing. That incident affected his life for a long time.

✍️Answer. At the pool, the incident took place when Douglas was waiting for others, a big bruiser of a boy came there and throw Douglas into the pool just for fun. At the same time, Douglas's struggle started. He went to the bottom directly and on the way down, he planned : when his feet hit the bottom, he would make a big jump, come to the surface, lie flat on it, and paddle to the edge of the pool. 

But it seemed a long way down, those nine feet were more like ninety and before he touched bottom his lungs were ready to burst.He summoned all his strength, hit the bottom but he came up slowly. He opened his eyes and saw nothing but water only. He grew paniley. He wanted to catch a rope but there was only water.

👉Question ( 4) What handicap stayed with Douglas for a long time ? What did he do to resolve it from his life ?

डगलस के साथ क्या अपंगता लम्बे समय तक़ रही ? अपने जीवन से उसे निकालने के लिए उसने क्या किया ?

✍️ Answer. A handicap of water phobia stayed with Douglas for a long time. Due to childhood incident at California beach and fatal incident at Y. M. C. A. pool, he was in great fear of water. To resolve this fear from his life, he learnt swimming by an instructor for seven months. 

But being unsatisfied, he went to lake wentworth in new Hampshire, dived off a dock at triggs Island and swam two miles across the lake to stamp act Island. Doing such a lot, he had residual doubts. At his first opportunity he hurried west, went up the tieton to conrad measows, up the conrad creek tail to meade glacier, and camped in the high meadow by the side of warm lake.

👉 Question ( 5) What did Douglas decide to overcome his fear of water ? How long it took to Douglas to become a swimmer ?

डगलस ने अपने पानी के डर पर काबू पाने के लिए क्या निश्चय किया ? डगलस को एक तैराक बनने में कितना समय लगा ?

✍️ Answer. Douglas was a person who unfortunately faced an unwanted and unexpected situation in his childhood days. Two incidents of his childhood with the water made him scared of water. And for a long time, he stayed far from the water. Later, by the inner inspiration and attraction towards water, compelled him to go close to the water again. 

And to overcome his fear of water, he learnt swimming under the supervision of a coach. But still he had some residual doubts. And for clearing those residual doubts, he went to many lakes, docks and Island. At different locations, he swam miles of distance, crossed whole lakes up and down, went to meadows and glaciers and gained a lot of confidence and experience.
